Faye's Hexagon Album

As soon as I saw the hexagon die, I knew that I wanted to make a hexagon album.

For the cover, I cut plain card from the bigger hexagon and patterned paper from the smaller hexagon. I inked the edges of the patterned hexagon for the darker album to create a blended finish. I didn't ink for the lighter album because the raw edges gave a nice muted finish. It is very important to decide the direction of the hexagon , whether the flat edge is at the top or a hexagon point, if using patterned paper. I made this mistake many times! I stuck the hexagons onto a backing card rather than straight onto the album cover. This allowed me to have a flat surface when positioning the hexagons therefore giving me a more accurate finish.

I also used the hexagon die within the album. The hexagons are the perfect size for use with the 'coolkatz album text stamp'. I cut the bigger hexagon out of co-ordinated patterned paper and plain card out of the smaller hexagon. I used the 'coolkatz text tool' to accurately position the stamp in the hexagon centre. The left-over hexagons were added to pockets for the users to add their own memories or small notes.

The next project completed was the miniature market cart. I decided that I wanted to make it into a sweet cart as I thought it would make a perfect wedding gift.

I quickly decided that the hexagons would make a perfect quilted cover for the cart. I attached bondaweb onto the back of the chosen fabric before using the 1/12 hexagon die to cut the fabric/bondaweb out. The bondaweb means that you can iron it onto the plain fabric saving the use of pins. I had a sandwich of hexagons on fabric, wadding and then plain backing fabric.

I used a zig zag stitch to go around all the edges to secure each hexagon. I finished by using a blanket stitch around the edge. You can using binding but I needed a flat finish as was putting sweet jars on top of it.
