Carol's "Woodland" Book Nook Intrigue®

If you Go Down in the Woods today…...

Immediately I saw this lovely little nook kit I knew it would be perfect for a Teddy Bear’s Picnic and could be used as a child’s night light.    This was a really straight forward kit to construct and quite easy to make the details come to life.   Because the kit comes with numerous MDF bushes and tree pieces it is fun to play around and let your imagination run wild to create a unique piece just as you want it to be.

Before assembling, the beautifully etched trees on the MDF side pieces were easy to paint using a mix of different coloured browns which were made with one colour and then adding greys or a bit of black to darken.

I added some “blossom” along with some of the extra tree pieces supplied and placed these at angles to suggest walking through woods before coming to the clearing.

I painted toadstools and a few bushes I hope added to this effect along with a “trail” of picnic invitations.  I loved the little door, hinting at a magical land which would surely come as a big surprise!

Although the kit comes with a suggested pathway into the woods, I wanted to have a grassy base (so much softer for the bears to sit on !) and the CoolKatz Craft miniature plates, glasses and a bottle helped add the details of the picnic spread out there.

I coated the bottle with clear nail varnish adding a tiny lemonade label printed from my computer and it was really easy to achieve what I think is a professional looking finish to these great little accessories.

The orange bear was made with a pipe cleaner and an internet Tutorial so there is no excuse for not having a number of bears even if, unlike me,  you don’t have a couple in your stock just waiting for the perfect project (I really must get out more!)

I painted the supplied battery operated light with a coat of yellow glass paint so that it represented the sunshine and which helps spotlight the bears on their blanket.

How cute are those bears and what a fantastic spread they are having!
